Missions of First United Methodist Church

Sager Brown/UMCOR, Kids Against Hunger, and Worship Outside the Walls

Our church is involved in many mission programs, both at the community level and in programs that reach out across the world.

Sager Brown is the UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) campus in Baldwin, Louisiana. Each year a team from our church goes to work at the warehouse where needed goods are packed and prepared for deployment to disaster areas in the United States. This year's trip will be in February 2020.

Kids Against Hunger is an international program that feeds hungry people in both the United States and in countries around the world. As a host church, we have many volunteers from other churches and community groups that help prepare the packaged meals. Last year we packaged over 100,000 meals with 25,000 of those meals being used locally by our food bank here in Waxahachie. The 2020 event will be held in the spring.

Worship Outside the Walls is a yearly event that takes place in the fall. Our church leads the event, but other churches join in on doing community service projects which include building ramps, going to hold worship services in nursing homes, making cookies for our police officers and firefighters, sewing little dresses for Africa, working in a community garden, doing clean up at a local cemetery, and much more. This year's event will be held on September 29, 2019.
